Growing up on the farm instilled a strong work ethic in me from an early age. Driving the tractor, preparing the fields for planting from the age of 8, walking beans and bailing hay even younger. At 12, when my father retired from farming, the family moved to Decatur. My youngest loves were math, science and football. Soon after, I discovered my love for architecture at vocational school, my love of music at college and my desire to prepare food from the satisfied smiles of those I cooked for. I attended Eisenhower High School, Richland Community College and the University of Illinois. Adult life began with what I thought to be a career path in engineering, first with mechanical and structural revisions at Firestone. Later, during construction I was involved as a Quality Engineer at the Clinton Power Station until it reached peak production, and then later I found myself designing feeding complexes for poultry in the U.S. and Mexico.
