New Year, New Home! Am I right? If you are on the hunt for a new home this year, then you'll have to check out our 2019 MUST-HAVE features for your next home. Each month, one of our real estate agents will talk about one of these great features and why they feel it's a necessity for your home. To kick of 2019, our topic for January is the kitchen. Now, obviously every home needs a kitchen, but Colleen Brinkoetter is going to tell you what her favorite FEATURES in the kitchen are, and why the kitchen is so important... And who knows, maybe you'll have the perfect kitchen in mind for your dream home after reading this article!
"Whether your kitchen is big or small, open or not open -the kitchen is the HEART of the home. From the wonderful smells (and not so wonderful sometimes), to the gathering of everyone as they come for meals.
I love a working space - be it big or little. It can be an island or counter top for people to gather around and help prepare the meal, OR it can be an area just to talk to people as you prepare the meal or for the children to have a snack after school. I also like it to overlook the family room/living room or the outside.
I love that my kitchen sink looks to the outside & the family room. When my children were little, I could watch them play as I prepared lunch or dinner. Another good feature for a kitchen is lighting. (Yes we need to see what we are doing, good cooks or not) Pendant lighting is very nice, because you can hang them over your work space. There are so many cool designs now. From the ultra modern, to classic to industrial & More.....There are even some pretty funky ones out there. OOO and I like dimmers on the lighting too - always a plus!
Another great feature that people are finding space for in their kitchen is a "COFFEE/TEA BAR STATION" Sooooo cool! When you get up in the morning or you need that 3pm "pick-me up", everything is right there for you, machine, cups, sugar/creamer, & even snacks & motivational sayings I have even seen where some people have added a water-line right to their coffee machine - AWESOME!!!
Always remember that when you are decorating/remodeling YOUR kitchen/home - GO FOR IT! This is YOUR FAMILY HOME :-) Make it how you like & create HAPPY SPACES! REMEMBER too though, that it may not be for everyone. If you do decide to move, you will need to neutralize some if you have really made it "your own."
Now that our children are grown and at school or on their own, I LOVE when we are all together. My oldest still comes for dinner a few times a week and we all sit around the table. Our kitchen is truly the central meeting place! One story I love to share, I woke up one morning last Christmas break to find 2 DIRTY plates ON TOP of the dishwasher, NOT IN the dishwasher, from my son's late night snack/meal :-) And I thought to my self "I LOVE IT" my ducklings are all home and then put the plates IN the dishwasher and didn't say a word.. HAHAHA"
